Gift of Huangyao
Gift of Huangyao is a gift packaging design for a seasoning sauce made in Huangyao ancient town, Guangxi, China. Three layers of hollowed out carved paper are placed one behind the other to form a three-dimensional scene. The outer layer shows gatehouses, archways and bridges. The middle layer shows pavilions and local life. The inner layer shows mountains and rivers. The arrangement recalls a traditional Chinese courtyard home. The bottle cap takes the shape of a bluestone road. Degradable paper is used as the main material.
Gift of Huangyao Sauce by Jie Yang has been identified as a grand illustration of communication design by the A' Design Awards. Gift of Huangyao Sauce earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Packaging Design in 2022. The A' Packaging Design Award is an international, jury-voted, fair and ethical design prize which honors outstanding design of bottles, boxes, cans, pouches, tubes, cartons, wrappers, bags and more.
