Bama Elegant Meeting

Bama Elegant Meeting is a tea packaging series created for a classic Chinese tea. The design is based on four plants, plum, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum, which represent the four gentlemen in traditional Chinese culture. Each plant is linked to a different tea variety and its character. The tea can is round and full in shape, suggesting harmony. The top of the can takes its form from the Taihu stone used in Chinese gardens, a shape associated with elegance. The packaging is made of ceramic and paper and measures 230 by 230 by 210 millimeters.

Dukang Liquor

Dukang Liquor is a packaging design for a Chinese baijiu. The bottle is shaped from top to bottom to form the abstract profile of Cao Cao, a historical military strategist and poet whose verse gave the brand its name. The cap recalls the headwear of officials of the period after the Han dynasty, and the body is carved like a gown, which also gives a steady grip. Glass is used instead of the ceramic common to similar brands, so the surface gains gloss and texture. The outer box is decorated with a vector painting of Luoyang, the ancient capital.

The original red palette is extended with purple and further tones to give the identity a more fashionable character. Auxiliary graphics add flexibility across applications. The simplified visual system replaces an aging emblem and supports a more international brand image.

Sejong Center Rebranding

Sejong Center Rebranding is a visual identity design for the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, a public institution opened in Seoul in 1978. The identity moves away from the usual logo style of Korean public institutions. Hangul, the Korean writing system, serves as the symbol itself, and the letterforms are combined with musical notation drawn from the six pillars of the building. Custom typefaces, stage staff clothing and a printed book extend the identity beyond the logo. The design joins old and recent forms in one system.
